Creating and Managing Asset Types

What Are Asset Types?

Asset types are the building blocks of your project. They define the categories of items you will place on your floorplans — things like room signs, directional signs, fire extinguishers, safety signs, or any other physical asset you need to track.

Each asset type has a unique code (e.g. RS1, DS2, FE3), a description, and a colour that determines how its markers appear on the floorplan. When you place an asset on a floorplan, it inherits all the properties of its asset type, including any custom fields you have defined.

Creating a New Asset Type

  1. 1

Open your project and navigate to the Asset Types tab.

  2. 2

Click the + Create Asset Type button.

  3. 3

Enter an Asset Code — a short, unique identifier like ST1, DS2, or WF3.

  4. 4

Add a Description that explains what this type represents (e.g. "Room Identification Sign").

  5. 5

Choose a Colour to visually distinguish this type on the floorplan.

  6. 6

Optionally enable additional fields: Name, Directional Content, QR Code, or custom fields.

  7. 7

Click Create Asset Type to save.

Custom Fields

Beyond the default fields (code, description, colour), you can enable optional fields to capture additional data about each asset. The Name field lets you assign a human-readable label to each asset (e.g. "Reception", "Conference Room A"). The Directional Content field is designed for wayfinding signs that need arrow directions and destination lists.

You can also add completely custom fields to capture project-specific data — material type, mounting height, substrate, finish, or any other attribute your team needs to track.

💡

Plan your asset types before you start placing assets. A well-thought-out type structure saves time later. Group similar items under the same type and use custom fields for variations rather than creating many nearly identical types.

⚠️

Deleting an asset type will remove all placed assets of that type across every floorplan. This action cannot be undone. Export your data first if you need a record of the assets.
